A medical emergency is any condition that is life-threatening or requires urgent care. Some of the most common emergencies we treat include:

  • Trauma, such as being hit by a vehicle or attacked by another animal
  • Ingesting toxic foods or substances
  • Increased breathing rate or difficulty breathing

  • Persistent retching
  • Blood in urine or difficulty urinating
  • Red, swollen, or painful eyes
  • Swollen or distended abdomen

If you're unsure whether your pet’s condition is an emergency, call us at (219) 785-7300, and we’ll help guide you.

What should I do if my pet eats something toxic?

Please call us and bring your pet in right away. If possible, bring the packaging or a sample of what they ingested.

You can also reach out to the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC) Hotline at (888) 426-4435 (a consultation fee may apply).

Do you offer financing?

Yes. We know that emergency care is an unexpected expense, which is why we offer financing options such as CareCredit and VetBilling. Visit here for more details.

Why should I take my pet to EVCC – Westville versus another ER vet?

As an emergency-only hospital that is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, EVCC-Westville is dedicated to being available whenever an emergency strikes. While other veterinary options do exist in the greater Michigan City area, our focus on emergency-only care allows us to provide a team and facility that is equipped to handle the most urgent and critical cases around the clock.

And while we can’t guarantee wait times on any given day, EVCC Westville operates on a streamlined triage system that helps reduce delays and ensures that pets receive prompt, personalized emergency care.

But we’re more than just an emergency veterinary hospital—we are a trusted, community-driven team dedicated to compassionate care. Founded in 2003 by 36 local veterinarians who saw the urgent need for accessible emergency services in Michigan and the Midwest, we have remained proudly independent, always putting pets' health and well-being first.
