Veterinary Mentorship for DVM Graduates and Vets

Mentorship for DVM Graduates

EVCC offers veterinary mentorship for new graduates or new-to-ER veterinarians! You’ll get to dive in and gain real-world, hands-on experience to build your skills and come into your own as an emergency veterinarian. Learn more about our mentorship opportunities for new and experienced vets below.

We want you to feel as comfortable and confident as possible as you begin your career practicing at EVCC. Our experience has taught us that a staged approach to transitioning into a new practice is the most effective method for accomplishing this.

What to Expect

We will work with you to determine the appropriate timeline and workflow for your personalized mentorship process. Each new team member will be scheduled with one of our core DVM mentorship team members for the first two months at EVCC.

During month three of your mentorship, you can expect to be scheduled for shifts that overlap with other associate DVMs. This allows for collaboration and relationship building among the doctor team. From month four to your first anniversary with EVCC, your schedule will be adjusted to include some solo shifts and some overlapping shifts. This works to facilitate gradual independence while still providing regular support. Even on solo shifts, the new team member has access to the veterinarians working at the other EVCC locations.

Schedules will be adjusted to accommodate individual training needs and will be decided between you and your mentor.

What to Expect

After Orientation Day, you will be scheduled with one of the core members of the DVM team for a minimum of 3 to 5 shifts depending on your level of experience and comfort with ER medicine. These first shifts will focus on navigating EzyVet, Vet Radar and the workflow. We will also center on you getting to know the EVCC team and understanding your skills based on EVCC technical levels.

After your first few shifts, we will have you complete some solo shifts. In the first month of your mentorship, most of your shifts will be overlapping weekend shifts. This ensures that any questions or concerns can be addressed in real-time.

Scheduling is subject to change depending on individual needs and requirements.
