About EVCC Not Your Average Emergency Veterinary Group

At Emergency Veterinary Care Centers (EVCC), your pets are at the heart of everything we do. Since 2003, we’ve stayed true to one mission: providing compassionate, AAHA-accredited emergency veterinary care for pets when and where they need it most.

What began as a collaboration between 36 local veterinarians has grown into a trusted network of independent emergency veterinary hospitals across the Midwest.

How It All Began

2003: Westville Opens (Limited Hours)

Our story starts in Westville, IN when North Central Veterinary Emergency Centers (NCVEC) opened to fill a critical gap in after-hours care.

2009: A Shared Vision Expands

Greg O’Brien joins our mission, believing in the power of locally led emergency care and helping our founders strengthen and expand their vision.

2011: Westville Goes 24/7

Community demand grew quickly, and so did we. NCVEC Westville became a 24/7 emergency hospital, offering continuous veterinary care every day and time of the year.

2014: Highland Opens 24/7 from Day One

We brought our model closer to Chicago with the launch of NCVEC Highland, immediately providing round-the-clock care for pets and peace of mind for families.

2021: Mishawaka Opens (Limited Hours)

We expanded east with the opening of NCVEC Mishawaka, extending our services to more northern Indiana pet owners and their families.

2022: A New Name with the Same People and Mission

NCVEC becomes Emergency Veterinary Care Centers (EVCC), a name that reflects our unified mission, current and future expansion, and shared promise for dedicated emergency care.

2023: Holland Opens (Limited Hours)

3 became 4 with the opening of EVCC Holland, marking our first hospital in Michigan!

2024: Holland and Mishawaka Become 24/7

2024 was a big year for us; both our Mishawaka and Holland hospitals transitioned to 24/7 operations, ensuring that pets in those regions have access to round-the-clock emergency care.

2025: Kalamazoo Opens Its Doors

We continued our growth in southwest Michigan with the opening of EVCC Kalamazoo, our fifth location and second in Michigan.

Still Independent.
Still Community Focused.

Even after two decades, 18 of our founding veterinarians remains involved in guiding our mission. Their vision was never about profits; it was, and always will be, about creating a legacy of care, trust, and integrity.

At EVCC, we answer only to the pets and people we serve. That independence allows us to:

  • Tailor care to local needs
  • Build genuine community connections
  • Adapt quickly to new innovations and challenges in emergency medicine

We’re committed to bridging gaps in emergency services by expanding into under-resourced pet-owning communities to deliver dedicated care where it’s needed most; while supporting local veterinary practices and prioritizing the needs of our communities.

Independence isn’t just part of who we are; it’s what makes EVCC different, giving us the freedom to stay true to our roots, grow with purpose, and continue delivering the kind of emergency care that puts your pet, and your trust, first.
